"The moment the dunes opened onto the ocean I actually gasped. Worth every dollar."
The Sandwich Harbour Expedition
The oldest desert on earth
ends in the sea
A single day by 4×4 from Walvis Bay — across the lagoon of flamingos, over roaring dunes, to the ridge where 55 million years of sand fall into the Atlantic.

The tour — our only one
Sandwich Harbour 4×4
We run one tour and we run it well. Small groups, senior guides, and a route that bends with the tide — no two days on the sand are the same.
- Professional local guide
- Park entry fees
- Snacks, drinks & bottled water
- Walvis Bay pickup & drop-off
The journey
Four movements, one day
The lagoon
Dawn light on the Walvis Bay lagoon. Flamingos by the thousand, pelicans over the salt works, the desert waiting across the water.
The dunes
Into the Namib — 55 million years old. The 4×4 crests slip faces that hum and roar; your guide reads the sand like a chart.
The garnet sand
Whole dune faces stained pink by crushed garnet. Fog-harvesting beetles, jackal tracks, plants that live on almost nothing.
The meeting point
Then it happens: hundred-metre dunes dropping straight into cold surf. We park on the ridge, pour a drink, and let it sink in.
